My Wild Week in Zimbabwe: Victoria Falls, Safaris, and New Friends
When you think of Zimbabwe, you probably picture Victoria Falls—one of the seven natural wonders of the world. I spent a week in Zimbabwe, and it was jam-packed with adventure, new friends, and some of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had.

Where I Stayed: Victoria Falls Backpackers
First of all, let’s talk about the hostel. I stayed at Victoria Falls Backpackers, and if you’re heading to this part of the world and you’re on a budget, this place is a must. I met some of the best people here—travelers from all over the globe who were so helpful with recommendations on where to go and what was worth it and what wasn’t. Plus, we got a ton of recommendations for our upcoming journey to South Africa. We got to meet a ton more people doing the same thing we were because there was another hostel down the road from us called Shoestrings that had lots of game nights and fun events
Victoria Falls: The Showstopper
Now, let’s get to the main event—Victoria Falls. The sheer power of the falls is mind-blowing. We spent a couple hours walking along the various viewpoints, taking probably 1,000s of pictures. If you’re into nature, photography, this is a bucket-list spot. And don’t forget your raincoat, because you’re probably going to get soaked from all the mist.

Chobe Day Safari: A Quick Adventure in Botswana
Okay, if you haven’t gone on a safari before thats definitely a must but if your going to South Africa I found I had much better luck seeing things there but definitely still a great experience and it really just depends what time you go, its all about luck, we did the day trip to Botswana through the Chobe Safari. This was hands down one of the highlights of my trip. I crossed into Botswana (just make sure you get a visa that allows you to re-enter otherwise you’ll end up paying double) we got up close and personal with elephants, lions, zebras, giraffes… it’s like being in a nature documentary. The safari was an easy day trip from Victoria Falls, I don’t think I stopped taking photos the entire time. Highly recommend it if you want to get your safari fix and you don’t have much time in Africa.
Sunset Dinner Cruise: A Perfect End to the Day
After a day of sightseeing and adventures, there’s no better way to wind down than with a sunset dinner cruise on the Zambezi River. As the sun sets over the water, you’re treated to stunning views and a relaxing atmosphere. It’s the perfect mix of serenity and splendor. And trust me, the sunset views here are something straight out of a dream. If you’re lucky, we even spot some hippos or elephants along the shore.
Vulture Feeding: A Surprising Daily Event
And last but definitely not least, there’s the vulture feeding at 1 pm every day. This unique (and totally free) event takes place at the local vulture sanctuary, where you can watch a flock of vultures get fed at 1 pm sharp. It’s fascinating, a little bit bizarre, and totally worth checking out. The vultures swoop down like they own the place, and it’s a seriously wild spectacle to witness. Plus, it’s free!
